Pothole, School, Bus: Who Is Responsible in Rodgau?

A pothole in front of your house, a leaking roof at the school, a bus that comes too rarely: who do you ask? Town, district and federal state share the work. In Rodgau, the answer is often the town. But not always.

The pothole

Who builds and repairs a road depends on the type of road: municipal road, district road, state road or federal road. But in Hesse, there is a special rule in town. A town with more than 30,000 inhabitants is also responsible for state and district roads in town. Rodgau has approx. 45,000 inhabitants. That is why the town is almost always responsible in town.

Outside town, Hessen Mobil takes care of state and district roads. Hessen Mobil is an authority of the federal state and works on behalf of the state and the district.

Where do you report a pothole?

Online, in the defect and fault reporter of the Stadtwerke Rodgau. There you also report a broken street lamp, illegally dumped waste or a found bicycle. You mark the location on a map, select the type of defect and enter your contact details.

The school

For the school, two bodies share the work:

  • The district of Offenbach is the school authority. It builds the buildings, maintains them and equips them. It is the school authority for approx. 90 schools in the district, also for the schools in Rodgau.
  • The federal state of Hesse pays the teachers. The responsible office is the State School Office for the district and the town of Offenbach.

So a broken window is a matter for the district. A missing teacher is a matter for the state.

The bus

The town plans, organises and pays for the town bus and the school bus, more precisely: the Stadtwerke Rodgau. The town bus is line OF-40. For connections into the region, the Stadtwerke work together with the kvgOF, the transport company of the district of Offenbach. The Hopper, an on-demand shuttle, also comes from the kvgOF. It has operated in all of Rodgau since 1 January 2026.
